8 Exceptional Amarones to Add to Your Wine Collection

Italy is known for truly spectacular terroirs that are home to some of the best wines. Up in the Northeast Veneto region, wines like Prosecco, Valpolicella and Soave are produced. “The Veneto is its own vinous nation,” says Monica Larner, in the first of her two-part series on the region’s wines. “It has the volume and the quality to stand on its own outside the context of Italian wine.”

One wine that shines particularly bright in the Veneto is the mighty Amarone, where “it is king,” Larner states, made from only the best varietals in the region.

“Valpolicella reds are based on a blend of grapes including Corvina Veronese, Corvinone, Rondinella, Molinara, Oseleta and others,” Larner continues. “Often these varieties are planted within the same vineyard. The system relies on meticulous fruit selection.”

Want to add the King to your collection? Pick up one of these seven Amarones, all rated 90 points and higher:

“...a creation of enormous beauty and unflinching intensity.”

“This is a full-bodied red wine that moves smoothly with light and elegant footsteps.“

“This is a monumental effort that shows enormous power and determination on all the senses, from the nose to the mouth.”

"If you love Amarone, this is a great new find."

“Here is a balanced and powerful wine from Northeast Italy. “

“...an irresistible wine that delivers the very best of Valpolicella in body and spirit.”

“Amarone hardly gets better than this.”

“This exuberant wine shows fruity opulence on the one side and sophisticated spice and leather on the other.”
