Dinner With Friends in St.-Emilion

A dinner with good friends was highlighted by some very good right bank wines, including the sumptuous 2000 Le Moulin, a small Pomerol estate that is fashioning impressive, rich wines. For me, it represents the poor person’s Le Pin. From an off year for Pomerol, the 2002 Clos l’Eglise is a strong effort. It is far more evolved than some of the top vintages of this estate, which is owned by the charismatic Hélène Cathiard-Garcin. We finished with a beautiful bottle of 1949 Vieux Château Certan. Although this vintage is not as successful as the 1947, 1948, or 1950, it is a wonderful effort from this historic estate on the Plateau of Pomerol, adjacent to Petrus.
