Jean-Georges is a true international chef with gourmet locations spread throughout the world. His beautiful Shanghai restaurant is a dark, sexy venue situated on the bustling The Bund (which means the embankment), in the old section of Shanghai facing Poudong, with all its super-high skyscrapers. The view across the river is remarkable ... and the food isn’t bad either. Three superb dishes, the beautifully cooked and presented  foie gras brülée, crunchy tiger prawns, and black cod, were all eaten with great enthusiasm.

The wines included a delicious, full-bodied non-vintage Bollinger Brut Champagne, and the brilliant 1996 Latour, a classic Pauillac revealing loads of cassis, cedar, minerals, and earth. Full-bodied and fresh, it remains a pre-adolescent with at least 25-30 years of life ahead of it.
