Union Square Café

One of my favorite New York City restaurants for consistency as well as superlative food is the Union Square Café, which continues to be among the most popular restaurants listed in the Zagut Guide. Danny Meyer is unquestionably one of the great restauranteurs of our time, and what he has done in Manhattan is remarkable. One of his oldest venues, the Union Square Café turns out brilliant cooking at very fair prices. With the delicious light, deep-fried calamari, extraordinary ravioli stuffed with summer vegetables, and the earthy, rustic ragout of rabbit, I chose the crisp, delicate 2007 Bruno Giacosa Arneis. This tank-fermented and aged white was a perfect match. It was a wonderful lunch which brought back many great memories of all the superb meals I have had here over the years.
