Visit the World's First Avocado Bar in Brooklyn

Someone has finally taken all of the Instagram hype for avo-toast and made it into a real, living and breathing restaurant in New York City.
That someone is Francesco Brachetti, creator of Avocaderia—dubbed the “world’s first” avocado bar—now open inside the Industry City Food Hall in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park neighborhood. It was in Mexico where Italian-born Brachetti drew his inspiration for the space, as he developed a great love for the humble avocado. He then looped in a friend living in Seattle, Alessandro Biggi, as well as his cousin and chef from Modena, Italy, Alberto Gramini, to settle on a location and develop the menu.
“We knew New York was the best option for this,” Brachetti says. Naturally.
The walls of Avocaderia are adorned with Moroccan tiles, succulents and cacti, as well as a neon green sign reading “Smashed in NYC”—all keeping with the avocado theme.
The menu offers a variety of salads, smoothies, bowls and—of course—toasts, and changes seasonally once a month. Try the Let it Beet toast featuring beet hummus, avocado, watermelon radish, spiced seeds and arugula; or the Greek Island salad with mixed greens, avocado cubes, fresh and sun-dried tomatoes, feta, yogurt, olives and pistachio dukkah. All ingredients are locally sourced—except for the avocados, which come from a cooperative in the Mexican state of Michoacán. The restaurant also offers a rewards program—buy ten menu items and get one free.
Avocaderia is open Monday through Friday from 11a.m. to 4:00p.m. Editor’s pro tip: get there early as the hungry employees from Industry City’s offices start forming a line around noon.
Though the dynamic trio are still based outside of the city, that’s not stopping the avocado train. Weekend open dates as well as expansion are on deck. “We want to expand in New York as soon as possible,” Brachetti says.
