5 100-Point Wines from End of September 2019 Issue

Last week, over 400 new wine reviews were published in our End of September 2019 issue, featuring a much-anticipated follow-up reports on major wine regions covered earlier this year, including Napa Valley: More 2016s, Veneto: Amarone della Valpolicella, Soave Classico and More (Part 2) and Southern Rhône: Even More Châteauneuf-du-Pape, as well as an in-depth look at Napa Valley’s Promontory vineyard

Of the bunch, five received a stellar 100 points. “’Bright,’ ‘energetic,’ ‘expressive,’ ‘refreshing’ and ‘bold’ were descriptors that came up again and again in my tasting notes,” says editor-in-chief Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, in her latest Napa Valley report. “Truly, this is an exceptional year that will give lovers of Napa Valley wines a lot of pleasure for many years to come.”

Happy hunting.

“This bright, energetic, incredibly nuanced beauty is built like a brick house and, while approachable in youth, is easily a 50-year wine.”

“This is simply a stunning expression of one of Napa’s great, great sites—it should age incredibly!”

“Medium to full-bodied, the palate reveals explosive energy wrapped in a silken carpet of exquisitely fine-grained tannins, finishing with amazing freshness and perfume.”

“The deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Proprietary Red Wine comes charging out of the glass, brandishing bold, opulent blackberry pie, warm cassis and blueberry preserves notes with hints of cigar box, Indian spices, crushed rocks and forest floor plus fragrant accents of lavender and black tea.”

This incredibly singular expression of Napa Valley is unlikely to be released by the winery until 2021, so keep your eyes peeled in a few years’ time—Napa fans won’t want to miss this one!
