7 Best Wines From Our Interim End of July 2018

On Tuesday, we posted our Interim End of July Issue, replete with over 300 wines tasted. In it, editor-in-chief Lisa Perrotti-Brown takes a visit to Martinelli’s Jackass Vineyard and Jackass Hill, providing insight into the difference between the two while finding some truly knockout wines—some the best of the Issue.

Here, the seven top-rated wines from the Issue, all rated 97 points and higher.

“Full-bodied and full throttle in the mouth, it delivers tons of earth and spice layers with a solid frame of chewy tannins and wonderful freshness, finishing with epic length.”

“Even at this early stage, it's difficult to imagine that this Chevalier won't be one of the wines of the vintage.”

“Medium-bodied with a rock-solid frame of grainy tannins and electric freshness, it has an incredibly tightly wound palate of red fruit and savory layers with a very long, minerally finish.”

“This is a whopping great beauty in the very full-bodied mouth with fantastic intensity, a built-like-a-brick-house structure and an epically long finish.”

“Medium garnet-purple in color, the 2007 Zinfandel Jackass Vineyard offers a drop-dead gorgeous nose of potpourri, cinnamon stick, star anise, sandalwood and Sichuan pepper with a core of fruitcake, blueberry preserves and raspberry pie with waft of dried herbs and cigar box.”

“Medium-bodied with compelling tension between the wildly intense red and black fruit flavors and the incredible freshness, it has a taut, finely grained frame and long mineral-tinged finish.”

“This is still so incredibly youthful!”
